In the Shadow of the Sun King

In the Shadow of the Sun King

Golden Keyes Parsons

Occasionally a novel weaves romance, suspense, history, and theology to create a passageway into another world. Rarely does a debut author manage such a feat!

Golden Keyes Parsons, a descendant of the Huguenots who suffered persecution in 17th century France, pens a delightful novel that explores the travails of the Clavell family, whose estate is seized by a Regt. Des Dragons du Roi. After her servants hurriedly assemble Madeline’s wardrobe and fill a velvet pouch of ivory combs, pearl jewelry, a glittering tiara and a mysterious poesy ring, Madeline embarks upon an odyssey to glittering Versailles to seek the king’s favor.

Though Madeline assures Francois, her landowner husband, of unconditional love, her heart wavers when she encounters the Sun King and all the trappings that money and power can buy. To complicate things, her plan works—too well. When she refuses to accede to the king’s demand, terror and persecution rain on Madeleine, Francois, and their three children. The ruthless Dragons du Roi destroy the Clavell estate, imprison Francois, and separate Madeleine and her sons from her daughter. Only God—and men touched by His truth—can reunite Madeline’s family and bring closure to those persecuted for their faith.

To enrich this fascinating depiction of Huguenot travails, Parsons seamlessly weaves snippets of history and words from the beautiful French language In the Shadow of the Sun King. Thank you, Golden, for a powerful read!
